A NEWS report recently published by the local media said a man made it a condition on his ex-wife to quit her job and stay at home if she wanted him to give her the divorce document she was asking for. The ex-husband was only short of deciding for her which corner of the house she should sit in. The ex-husband is exerting this pressure on his ex-wife to enable her to see her children once a week as per a court order. If we had an effective and fair justice system, the woman would not have been blackmailed by her ex-husband in order to be able to see her children. This is her God-given right. Regretfully, a woman in our country is the shortest wall over which anyone could jump, especially if she has no support from her family. Our society is a masculine one, in which there is no place for women, who are losers in all cases. The newspapers recently published another story of a woman who was kept as a prisoner in her own home by her father who refused to allow her get married. She resorted to many intermediaries to save her from her imprisonment, but the father would not acquiesce. The poor woman had nowhere to go. All she could do was publish her story in the newspapers. All her male relatives who she sought help from, sided with her father. After all, he is the dominant masculine and she is the coerced feminine. If our system was effective in protecting the rights of the women divorcees there would not have been a husband who would prevent his ex-wife from seeing her children. There would be no man who would blackmail his ex-wife depriving her of her rights to alimony and to their child's custody. These are the woman's absolute rights which no one should deny. If we had a good system, men would respect it and succumb to it instead of coercing their wives to fulfill impossible conditions.
