Saudi Gazette RIYADH – Riyadh police arrested a five-member gang involved in the robbing of automated teller machines (ATMs) in the city. A portion of the stolen money was seized from the gang members. It was revealed in primary investigations that the gang was involved in planning and carrying out a dozen ATM kiosk robberies. The criminal investigation wing at Riyadh police launched a massive manhunt for the ATM robbers after receiving information at Al-Naseem police station about the gang's stealing an ATM with money. [caption id="attachment_46259" align="alignnone" width="569"] Seized currencies — SG photos[/caption] The investigations led to five suspects who are in their 30s and the officials started keeping an eye on their movements and monitored their whereabouts. After collecting evidence about their involvement in the robbery, the officials nabbed the robbers. A portion of the stolen money and tools, including gas-cutters used to break the machines, was recovered from the car used by them. The gang members admitted that they were involved in removing the ATM and taking it to an uninhabited location where they broke it with cutting tools. They confessed to planning and carrying out robbery of 11 other ATM kiosks, and that they used to divide the stolen money among themselves, with each one getting a share in accordance to the role played by him. The police transferred the case to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution to complete the investigation before referring the case to the court.
