Sam Bennett scored twice, Sean Monahan had a goal and two assists and the Calgary Flames avoid a season sweep by the Arizona Coyotes with a 5-2 win Monday night. T.J. Brodie and Joe Colborne also scored for Calgary, and Micheal Ferland had two assists. The Flames went 2 for 3 on the power play while stopping a three-game losing streak. Calgary had lost all four previous meetings this season to Arizona. Anthony Duclair scored twice for the Coyotes, who had won three in a row. Louis Domingue stopped 16 shots. Both of Duclair's goals came on power plays in the second period, giving him 19 on the season. He is tied with Trevor Letowski in 1999-2000 for second on the single-season scoring list for a Coyotes rookie. Duclair's second goal gave the Coyotes a 2-1 lead. He collected a deflection off Martin Hanzal after Alex Tanguay sent a pass into the crease and put in the rebound. The Coyotes played without captain Shane Doan, who missed the game while undergoing concussion protocol. He is day to day. Sharks 5, Kings 2: Joe Thornton's third-period, power-play goal broke a 2-2 tie and helped lift the Sharks past the Los Angeles Kings 5-2 as San Jose finally clinched a playoff spot Monday night. The Sharks (42-28-6) snapped a three-game losing streak — all at home — and qualified for the Stanley Cup playoffs for an 11th time in 12 seasons on their fourth try in a week. Capitals 4, Blue Jackets 1: Tom Wilson scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period, Braden Holtby stopped 21 shots and the Washington Capitals defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1, clinching the Presidents Trophy and home ice throughout the playoffs. Justin Williams, T.J. Oshie and Nicklas Backstrom also scored for Washington (54-16-5), which also equaled the franchise mark for regular-season wins. Flyers 3, Jets 2 (overtime): Claude Giroux was lucky to even be playing in against the Winnipeg Jets at the Wells Fargo Center. The Flyers' captain took an ugly hit Saturday night in a loss to Arizona but was fit enough to play. And good thing for Philadelphia he did. With time winding down in overtime — just 13.6 seconds until a shootout to be exact — Giroux beat Winnipeg goalie Ondrej Pavelec to give the Flyers a much-needed, 3-2 win over the Jets. Lightning 3, Maple Leafs 0: Preparing for the final four games of the regular season on the road, the Tampa Bay Lightning continue to pile up points during their six-game homestand, as was the case behind goalie Ben Bishop's 34 saves in a 3-0 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Amalie Arena. Bishop picked up his third shutout in his last six games, helping the Lightning kill off seven Toronto power plays after jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the opening period. Red Wings 3, Sabres 2: Luke Glendening's empty-net goal with three minutes remaining turned out to be the game-winner as the Detroit Red Wings held on for a 3-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. Avalanche 4, Predators 3: Desperately needing two points, the Colorado Avalanche started a brutally tough week by bumping off one of the NHL's hottest teams. Jumping out to a 3-0 lead before the first period was 12 minutes old, Colorado kept its slender Western Conference playoff hopes alive by holding off the Nashville Predators for a 4-3 verdict in Bridgestone Arena. Ducks 2, Oilers 1: Brandon Pirri scored the game winner as the Anaheim Ducks continued their pursuit of the L.A. Kings and first place in the NHL's Pacific Division with a 2-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers.
