Coyotes dominate Oilers again
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 24 - 03 - 2016

The rosters have changed over the past seven years. So have the respective strengths of the teams. One thing has remained constant. Arizona Coyotes coach Dave Tippett owns the Edmonton Oilers.
Alex Tanguay, Tobias Rieder, Martin Hanzal and Max Domi scored, and goalie Mike Smith made 27 saves as the Coyotes extended their franchise-record points streak against the Oilers to 23 games with a 4-2 win.
Arizona is 19-0-4 during the streak and Tippett improved to 24-2-4 against Edmonton in his seven seasons in Arizona. The last time Arizona lost to Edmonton in regulation was on Jan. 25, 2011.
Sabres 3, Hurricanes 2: Evander Kane and Johan Larsson scored one minute apart late in the third period as the Buffalo Sabres rallied to defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 to sweep the season series.
It appeared as if Carolina (31-28-14) was poised for the win after Joakim Nordstrom scored with 6:20 left — just six seconds after Carolina killed off a double-minor penalty to Brad Malone.
But less than three minutes later, Kane was left alone in front of Cam Ward to score his 20th goal of the season to tie it at 2.
Larsson then notched the winner with 2:49 left, his seventh goal of the season as Buffalo (30-34-10) won its 30th game for the first time since 2011-12.
Lightning 6, Red Wings 2: The Tampa Bay Lightning opened a six-game homestand with a resounding 6-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings at Amalie Arena, moving into a tie with the Florida Panthers for first place in the Eastern Conference with nine games to play.
The Lightning (42-26-5) posted their highest goal total in more than a month, collecting a goal in the first two minutes of each period.
Detroit (36-26-11) is fighting for its postseason life, as the Philadelphia Flyers tied them for the Eastern Conference's second wild-card position by earning a point in an overtime loss.
Blue Jackets 3, Flyers 2 (SO): If the Philadelphia Flyers miss the Stanley Cup playoffs, they might well remember this Tuesday night in March.
The Columbus Blue Jackets, with a full embrace of the spoiler's role, scored two desperation goals in the final 1:04 of regulation, then went on to beat the Flyers 3-2 in a shootout in Nationwide Arena.
Boone Jenner was the only player to score in the five-round shootout, beating Flyers goaltender Steve Mason with a nifty backhand move.
Wild 2, Kings 1: Fighting to make a fourth consecutive trip to the playoffs, every shift counts for the Minnesota Wild. On Tuesday, they made sure every shot counted also.
Goals by Erik Haula and Mikko Koivu were enough for the Wild, who beat the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 via just 18 shots on goal.
Blues 1, Sharks 0: Robby Fabbri spoiled the San Jose Sharks' clinching party.
The Blues rookie scored his 17th goal of the season midway through the third period to break a scoreless tie and send the St. Louis Blues past San Jose 1-0 at SAP Center. San Jose's second loss in six games meant the Sharks will have to wait at least another night to clinch an 11th Stanley Cup playoff spot in 12 years.
The third-place Sharks (41-26-6) also squandered a chance to pass Anaheim and pull within three of Pacific Division-leading Los Angeles on a night when both the Ducks and Kings lost.
Other results: Canadiens 4, Ducks 3; Capitals 4, Senators 2; Jets 2, Canucks 0; Stars 6, Blackhawks 2. — Reuters
