A total of 10 flood and drainage projects will be offered for public tender soon, said Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah and Chairman of the Subsidiary Committee tackling the rain and flood problems in Jeddah. He said the new projects, which will provide a permanent solution for Jeddah, include the construction of six dams, upgrading the capacity of existing flood canals and the construction of a new flood canal. He said a number of urgent projects have been completed over the last three months to provide flood protection. This includes the construction of five dams by the Jeddah Mayoralty - two in Wadi Mathoob and three others in Wadi Qous. He said sirens have been installed in these valleys. In addition, 16 support centers, overseen by Civil Defense teams, have been equipped to cover the entire city. A temporary crisis center has also been set up at the headquarters of the emirate in Jeddah and Makkah. __
