Lighting Up Earth Hour
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 19 - 03 - 2016

Carlton, Riyadh supported Earth Hour on March 19th at 8:30pm by turning off all non-essential lights across the property.
As part of The Ritz-Carlton's environmental responsibility program and Community Footprints, the hotel went dark in solidarity with the global movement but lit up the premesis by creating the biggest Earth Hour logo using candles. More than 400 ladies & gentlmen from The Ritz-carlton, Riyadh as well as the inhouse guests, media representatives and social media influncers participated in this activity.
Founded by the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF), Earth Hour is the single largest, symbolic mass-participation event in the world, inspiring a global community of millions of people across 162 countries and territories to switch off lights. Taking place annually, Earth Hour brings attention to sustainability issues on our planet and how each of us as individuals or organizations can make a difference.
All candles used in this event are made out of sustainable materials including beeswax, which are smoke free, non-toxic and non-allergenic, natural and petroleum-free. The giant 2700 square meter candle display of the Earth Hour logo in the hotel's driveway will be constructed and designed in partnership with Luxury Events in KSA.
Participating in Earth Hour aligns with Community Footprints, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company's social and environmental responsibility program, and its guiding principles to engage, contribute and inspire. Environmental responsibility is a key pillar of the program, implemented by each property's Ritz-Carlton Environmental Action Conservation Team (REACT), with a global strategy including water and energy conservation programs, recycling initiatives, sourcing environmentally preferred products, and increasing organic and locally sourced dining and spa options.
