India's Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with the Consulate General of India, will organize here a “Roadshow” on Jan. 11 from 3:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. at Movenpick Hotel. Officials and dignitaries from different states of India – Jammu and Kashmir in the north to Karnataka in the south – are taking part to showcase India as one of the leading tourist destinations in the world, a fact that the World Travel and Tourism Council acknowledges. Tourism in India, which for centuries has been known for its magnificent monuments, such as the Taj Mahal, is today the largest service industry that employs nearly nine percent of the country's manpower. The majestic Himalayas, the golden beaches of Goa and the exquisite architecture of south India are some of the major attractions in India on offer to foreign tourists, apart from India being known as a shopping paradise, a press release said. Visitors to the event will get a chance to receive firsthand information about the range of tourist sites in India, which is known the world over for its exotic locations and medical tourism. Representatives of the Indian Association of Tour Operators along with experts from the hospital and hospitality industry will be available. The initiative is taken by the Indian government to tap the country's tourism potential. The entry to the event is by invitation.
