JEDDAH — The Bangladeshi feature film Daruchini Dip, or The Cinnamon Island, was screened in Jeddah as part of the ongoing 9th Asian Film Festival, organized by the Asian Consuls General's Club (ACGC). The film was well received by the viewers, who included many Bangladeshi expatriates. Notable community member Rumi Sayeed said it was a great opportunity to watch a film in Bangladeshi outside of the country. He profusely thanked the ACGC for organizing the festival, which screened films from 13 Asian countries. Another excited viewer, Akhter Jahan from India, said: "The film is very good. It is full of life and hope. Life is shown in its real sense throughout the picture." Viewers also saw two short documentaries — Beautiful Bangladesh and Bangladesh-Resilient. Consular at the Consulate General of Bangladesh Mohammed Altaf Hossain welcomed the guests, who included several diplomats and a large number of prominent families from Jeddah's Bangladeshi community. Consul General of Bangladesh A.K.M. Shahidul Karim thanked those who attended the festival and praised the hospitality of Indonesian Consul General Dharmakirty Syailendra Putra, who is the 2016 ACGC coordinator. Karim said the film, based on a novel with the same title by Humayun Ahmed, is a story about one of the many dreams that students pursue on vacation — visiting new places with the friends. The film also won Best Foreign Language Film at the 2010 Bali International Film Festival in Indonesia.
