A passerby was wounded by a stray bullet when police opened fire on a fleeing motorist on Thursday. Jazan Police spokesman Khalid Bin Qaziz said police were in pursuit of a motorist who had refused to stop at a checkpoint on Shiqairi-Dhamad Road. The vehicle was speeding off and police had to use force to stop it. The officers opened fire on the vehicle in an attempt to flatten its tires but a stray bullet hit a passerby in the shoulder. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he was in stable condition. Police managed to arrest the driver of the vehicle they were chasing. After a thorough search, police found amphetamine pills and khat batches hidden inside the vehicle.
