Saudi Gazette As a part of ongoing Asian Film Festival 2016, organized by the Asian Consul General's Club (ACGC), Indian feature film "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" was screened at the Indian Consulate General on Thursday. A large number of film enthusiasts, diplomats of various countries and prominent Indian community members were in attendance. Consul General of India B.S. Mubarak enlightened the audience about the film. He thanked the guests for their presence. In his speech, he extended his special gratitude to Consul General of Indonesia Dharmakirty Syailendra Putra, who is the ACGC coordinator for the year. Mubarak said "Bajrangi Bhaijann" is about a small girl from Pakistan who gets lost in India and struggles to find her parents. The theme of the movie is humanity's triumph over parochialism. The release of the movie brought into limelight the story of Geeta, an Indian girl who was speech and hearing impaired and had strayed into Pakistan 10 years ago. She was taken care of by the philanthropic organization Edhi Shelters in Karachi since then. "This movie was instrumental in bringing this real life event back into the minds of people and Geeta was brought back to her homeland because of this movie," said Mubarak. The 159-minutes-long movie is about a 6-year-old Pakistani girl who gets separated from her mother at an Indian railway station and finds shelter in the home of Pawan, an ardent devotee of the Hindu deity Hanuman. The film moves across Punjab, Rajasthan and Kashmir, tracing the journey of a man who fights all odds to fulfill his promise to a little girl from across the border to reunite her with her parents. The Salman Khan-starrer, directed by Kabir Khan, has Kareena Kapoor, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Harshali Malhotra in other lead roles. Mubarak presented a plaque to Afghan national Amanullah, who is very passionate about Indian movies. Amanullah maintains a home theater and has more than 5,600 Indian movies in his collection. A documentary, "India a profile", was screened before the feature film. The participants relished fine Indian cuisine during and post screening of the film. An Indonesian film night will conclude the 9th ACGC Film Festival on March 11, followed by a festival for Asian food on the same night where each country will showcase its famous cuisines.
