JEDDAH — A total of 147 gas station investors have demanded an extension on the deadline for rectifying the violations recorded by the municipalities. Jeddah Municipality spokesman Mohammad Al-Bugamy said the municipality ran several inspection campaigns throughout the years and recorded multiple violations committed by several gas stations. "The municipality gave gas stations owners 24 months to rectify their violations and comply to the regulations of the municipality. That period ended last week and they had plenty of time to comply," said Al-Bugamy. He also said the municipality shut down the gas stations that did not rectify their status within the given period. "A total of 147 investors and owners of high gas stations have approached the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs demanding deadline extension. The municipalities have sent them shut down warnings for failure to comply with the deadline," he said. Al-Bugamy added the municipality has shared with them the development plan of the ministry. He said gas stations on Jeddah-Madinah Expressway, the gas stations serve many pilgrims and tourists throughout the year. It is very important that we offer our best serves. Many have complained that the gas stations are dilapidated and poorly maintained," said Al-Bugamy. He also said gas stations on Jeddah-Makkah Expressway have improved their services but they still need improvement according to the ministry's plan.
