RIYADH — Statistics released by the education administration in Riyadh revealed that 72 percent of kindergartens in the city are run by the private sector. The statistics also showed that female students outperformed their male counterparts in kindergarten, elementary and adult education stages. According to the figures carried by Al-Watan newspaper, the number of kindergartens belonging to the Department of Education in Riyadh reached 114 with 521 classrooms, where 11,345 pupils are taught by 1,368 teachers. The report said the private sector, supervised by the Ministry of Education, runs 255 schools with 1,746 classrooms, 30,068 pupils and 2,513 teachers. There are 77 kindergartens run by international schools, also supervised by the ministry. They have a total of 683 classrooms and 894 teachers for 7,713 girls and boys. The number of kindergartens under the Ministry of Social Affairs is 13 with 1,949 students and 89 teachers.
