An informed source at the Ministry of Social Affairs told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Finance have reservations about the draft law of protection against domestic violence adopted by the Ministry of Social Affairs. The Ministry of Finance has three reservations about the draft law. First, the domestic violence issue is not widespread in society and the cases of domestic violence needing shelter are few; therefore, there is no need to build 10 independent shelter centers now. Second, there should be clear-cut laws that help deal with this problem and accurately define what domestic violence practices are and what type of psychological, social and protective procedures are required in this regard. Third, there is no need for a social protection strategy as the law being studied by experts should suffice as long as it covers all basic elements. The Ministry of Interior, on the other hand, has 15 reservations put forward by the Anti-Crime Research Institute. The most notable of these reservations are the following: The draft law has several shortcomings which negatively affect its results; the nineteenth recommendation refers to the fact that many men involved in domestic violence cases feel superior to women and treat them with inferiority but the recommendation does not say how to treat this problem; the recommendation does not say also whether raising awareness is enough to eliminate this deep-rooted problem in society; another recommendation suggested that family consultation offices should be opened to mitigate tension; but it did not say what was the relationship between tension and violence. __
