The Martinez Brothers will be performing in Dubai at EDEN on the 11th of December. In 2014 The Martinez Brothers were named as DJs of the year by Mixmag who wrote that "no other DJ or DJ duo encapsulates house music in 2014 like the crown princes of DC10". The guys have held a residency at the world famous DC-10 in Ibiza since 2011, and in 2015 their standing within the world of underground house and techno is solid and constantly rising. Their DJ sets are full of energy, fueled by the brothers' in-depth knowledge and an innate ability to guide the crowd. Drake's "Back To Back": is the first diss track to get a Grammy nomination. Back in July, Drake released "Back to Back" as his second diss song aimed at Meek Mill and it unexpectedly turned into a hit. While you could hear it everywhere as soon as it dropped, it's safe to say noone thought it would eventually be nominated for a Grammy. Notable diss tracks of the past like Tupac's "Hit Em Up, Nas' "Ether," or Jay Z's "Takeover" were never recognized like this. The "Best Rap Performance" category that Drake is nominated for has been around since 1989. The "Best Rap Song" category, which "Back to Back" is not nominated for, has been around since 2004, but has also never featured a diss track. Looking through the Grammy history as a whole, it appears that they stay away from this kind of thing altogether.
Sitarist Anoushka Shankar and ‘Amy' director Asif Kapadia are among the Indian origin names featuring in the nominees list at the 58th Grammy awards.
Dubai Intl. Film Festival is joining forces with Image Nation, the powerful production arm of Abu Dhabi Media, to launch a social media campaign to encourage moviegoers to support Arab cinema. The campaign, which will use the hashtag #SupportArabCinema, will kick off during DIFF, which has a lineup of more than 70 Arab films in various sections this year, more than half of which world-premiering in Dubai. These include Emirati filmmaker Majid Al Ansari's "Zinzana" (aka "Rattle the Cage"), which is considered to be the first neo-noir film to come out of the UAE, and "Bilal," the first animation feature from the Gulf region.
The 12th Dubai International Film Festival kicked off Wednesday on an intensely emotional note with Lenny Abrahamson's drama "Room," accompanied by the film's young star Jacob Tremblay on the red carpet packed with Arab celebs including Egyptian comic Basem Youssef and Palestinian director Hany Abu-Assad, plus Western screen icons Catherine Deneuve, pictured, who is being honored with a lifetime achievement award, and Richard Dreyfuss. On the market side, the Dubai Film Connection, which is the region's only co-production platform, is back after a year's absence, and with it its director Jane Williams, who helped build DIFF into the prime Arab cinema mart, also reinstalled in her role. Confabs will comprise a panel discussion via Skype with Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos, who is expected to reveal the company's plans for the Middle East. Fest runs through Dec. 16.
Drake And Rihanna Lead Spotify's Most Popular In 2015. Spotify is one of the world's most popular streaming platforms with over 80 million members, so its most played tracks, artists, and albums are likely a proper representation of what the world loves. Today, the Swedish company revealed those acts that fared the best on the site this year.
Drake leads as the world's most-streamed artist. In 2015, he accumulated over 1.8 billion total streams of all of his work. Helping push that number so high are the two albums that the superstar released this year, both of which went to number one in the US. The most streamed woman in the world is Rihanna, who surpassed the 1 billion mark as well.
Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift lead Grammy nominations. Taylor Swift left anything but a "Blank Space" in the nominations for the 58th annual Grammy Awards, receiving nods in the Big Three categories -- album, record and song of the year -- though hip-hop artist Kendrick Lamar outdid her for overall nominations. Lamar topped everybody with 11 nominations. Swift earned seven, as did producer-singer the Weeknd.
