Roger Dubuis wins most innovative award
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 07 - 12 - 2015

Roger Dubuis' Excalibur Spider Skeleton Flying Tourbillon in Titanium, was adjudged ‘Watch with the Most Innovative Material', at the Watch World Awards 2015, held in New Delhi, India, recently.
Competing against the cream of the haute horological world represented in the competition, which was judged by an elite panel of luminaries, celebrities and watch connoisseurs, the Excalibur Spider Skeleton Flying Tourbillon created quite an impression among fine watch aficionados assembled in the Indian capital with its stunning design features, avant garde looks and technical excellence.
"It gives us great pleasure to receive this award, which is a tribute to the creative and technical heights scaled by our master watchmakers in crafting the Excalibur Spider Skeleton Flying Tourbillon. It also underscores the importance being paid to high standards by the Indian fine watch market, which is increasingly growing in profile as a highly influential player on the global stage," said Jean-Sebastien Berland, brand director, Roger Dubuis.
Part of the oustanding Astral Skeleton range that was unveiled at SIHH this year, the Excalibur Spider Skeleton Tourbillon is a watch with a big presence. The skeletonized innards brings all the intricacies of the internal working ensemble into plain view and gives the timepiece an elegant heft that belies its 45 mm frame. The 45mm case is made of titanium with black DLC treatment and the watch comes on a comfortable black rubber strap with a titanium folding clasp.
The master watchmakers of Roger Dubuis have scaled new creative heights with this timepiece. For the first time in the world they have succeeded in actually setting gems on an elastic material such as rubber. The black-treated RD505SQ movement, the DLC-coated titanium case and flange provide a perfect total-black backdrop on which to ‘paint' the rubber bezel with a stunning line up of 60 baguette-cut diamonds totalling approximately 2 carats.
On this exclusive 88-piece limited edition, the precious stones are actually set into the rubber moulding over the metal bezel, calling for perfect mastery of the exact thickness and a technique based on plastic deformation.
The timepiece symbolizes the essence of the Excalibur Spider concept, comprising fresh expressions of the maison's decidedly different interpretations and an unconventional aesthetic take on skeleton-work. Watches from the Spider range evokes the patient, meticulous and inventive nature of the work done by the spider in spinning its web, evolving novel and intricate patterns, reinventing its craft and constantly adapting to new situations. With this approach Roger Dubuis has taken its existing and acknowledged skeleton-work expertise and applied it to whole new areas of the watch.
Like all of the timepieces produced by Roger Dubuis, the Excalibur Spider Skeleton Flying Tourbillon comes with the Poincon de Geneve hallmark of watchmaking excellence.
