A total of 100 artists exhibited over 1,000 paintings at the fourth edition of “A Painting in Every House” exhibition launched by the prominent Saudi artist Taha Sabban at the Jeddah atelier on Monday. The show was opened for women on Sunday by Nadia Al-Zuhair, the well-known Saudi businesswoman. Each artist displayed 10 works, with prices ranging from SR200 to SR2,000. The paintings will be on public display for 25 days. Hisham Qandeel, the director of the atelier, told Saudi Gazette that the exhibition this year was diverse and attracted many visitors. Qandeel added that 70 percent of the artists were male and female Saudis, with 30 percent from Arab countries including Egypt, Sudan and Yemen. “A Painting in Every House” was started in 2007 to promote the visual arts among the general public, said Qandeel. Sabban said the affordable prices of the paintings allow “ordinary people” to own artwork. Abdullah Idrees, a veteran Saudi artist who also had his work on display, said the exhibition showcased the output of both well-known and young artists. Thuraya Al-Ghalib, a Saudi female, said she loves artwork showing the beauty and strength of horses. The most well-known Saudi male and female artists are: Baker Sheikhoun, Abdullah Hamas, Ola Hijazi, Othman Al-Khouzeim, Fahad Al Hjailan, Abdullah Nawawi, Mfarrej Assiri, Zaman Jassem, Faisal Al-Khdaidi, Heba Aabed, Manar Ammar, Abdullah Al-Bargi, Fatemah Abdula Rahman and Reem Al-Rayes. The Arab artists included Salah Taher, Adli Rezqallah, Marwa Qandeel, Ehab Lutfi, Najwa Ya'aqoub, Hind Adnan, Rasha Mustafa and Sadeq Ghalib. __
