JEDDAH: Art enthusiasts vied for the purchase of paintings at the “A Painting in Every House” exhibition of the work of over 120 male and female artists at the Jeddah Atelier Gallery of Fine Arts Thursday. With over 500 paintings by artists from across the Arab world on sale for between SR500 and SR2000, the exhibition witnessed considerable public interest. “A variety of schools are represented in the works on display, among them post-modernism,” said artist Taha Sabban, who launched the official opening of the exhibition. “We hope to send a message to the public and also to those in the world of art, to promote concord between audience and artist and a relationship that can develop with the development of our artists.” Gallery manager Hisham Qandil said that the popularity of the works posed a problem for exhibition organizers. “A lot of the paintings were bought even before the official opening of the show, so we had to replace them ahead of its opening to the public,” he said.
