Salman: World must fight the evil of terror
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 17 - 11 - 2015

ANTALYA, Turkey — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman's address at the G20 summit discussed the urgency to rid the world of the evil of terrorism, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday.
Leading the Saudi delegation to the summit, King Salman urged the international community to increase its efforts against terrorism that threatens "world peace and security," adding that "the war on terrorism is the responsibility of the entire international community."
The King proposed the establishment of "International Centre for the Fight against Terrorism under the UN" that aims to be an international intelligence hub for the exchange of information and research on terrorism. Saudi Arabia has already donated $110 million to the center, and called for other nations to contribute and support the center.
King Salman also touched on the recent attacks in Paris in which 129 people were killed.
"It is unfortunate that his excellency, my friend, President Francois Hollande, is not participating with us today because of the events and painful terrorist bombings that took place in Paris.
"As we offer our condolences to the families of the victims and to the people of France, we strongly denounce and condemn these heinous criminal acts that are not sanctioned by any religion and of which Islam is completely innocent," the King said.
"We have a favorable opportunity for cooperation and mobilization of initiatives to find solutions to the pressing challenges of terrorism and the problem of refugees as well as the promotion of confidence in the global economy and its growth and sustainability. We are confident that through our cooperation we can achieve this."
King Salman also raised the Syrian crisis, stating that "the international community must work to find an urgent solution."
He said: "It is certain that addressing the problem radically requires finding a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis and standing by the Syrian people's right to live in dignity in their homeland.
"The suffering of this people is exacerbated by the inaction of the international community to find a solution."
"With regard to the problem of Syrian refugees, it is obvious for everyone that it is the product of a regional and international problem, the Syrian crisis. We appreciate the international efforts, especially the efforts of neighboring countries and other countries in alleviating the suffering and pain of Syrian immigrants.
"We have contributed to supporting international efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian brethren."
Addressing the Yemeni issue, King Salman said the Kingdom and the Coalition countries are keen to find a political solution in accordance with Security Council Resolution (2216). They are also keen to provide all aid and humanitarian relief to the brotherly Yemeni people.
The King said, "The lack of political stability and security hampers our efforts to promote the growth of the global economy. Unfortunately, our region suffers from many crises, notably the Palestinian cause.
"The international community should continue its efforts to help achieve a comprehensive and just peace that ensures the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, including the establishment of an independent state with Al-Quds as its capital.
"The international community must take a firm stance toward the repeated Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and the Israeli violation of the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque."
