Hilal asks CAS to reverse ACL loss
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 31 - 10 - 2015

Beaten Asian Champions League semifinalist Al-Hilal has asked the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to overturn its defeat by UAE's Al-Ahli, claiming its opponent fielded an ineligible player.
The Swiss-based tribunal said it had fast-tracked the case and expected to announce a decision Tuesday, four days before the first leg of the final between Al-Ahli and China's Guangzhou Evergrande in Dubai.
Saudi side Al-Hilal claimed that former Heerenveen, Liverpool and Stoke City winger Oussama Assaidi, who came on for the last 20 minutes of the second leg, was not eligible to play for its opponent.
Ahli won the tie in dramatic fashion, scoring in the fifth minute of stoppage time to win the second leg 3-2 and qualify 4-3 on aggregate.
Hilal has demanded that it be awarded a 3-0 walkover for the second leg. It has already lost an appeal to the Asian Football Confederation.
Carneiro sues Chelsea
Lawyers acting on behalf of Eva Carneiro have served notice of a claim of constructive dismissal against Chelsea after the club's former first team doctor failed to agree a severance package, British media reported.
The legal papers will trigger an employment tribunal unless the club can agree an out-of-court settlement with Carneiro before a hearing takes place, the reports said.
Carneiro's lawyers served the papers this week after failing to agree a settlement with Chelsea, the reports said.
The three-month period in which a claim must be notified ends on Nov. 8.
Constructive dismissal involves an employer committing a serious breach of contract — such as creating a hostile work environment — entitling an employee to resign in response.
Carneiro left the club after a public falling out with manager Jose Mourinho, who had accused her and Jon Fearn, the Chelsea physiotherapist, of being "impulsive and naive" and failing to "understand the game" when they entered the field to treat Eden Hazard late in a match against Swansea.
Portland, Montreal thru
Portland advanced to the last eight of the MLS Cup playoffs by beating Sporting Kansas City 7-6 in a penalty shootout after a tense 2-2 draw Thursday.
Portland advanced to face Dallas in the Western Conference semifinals, while Montreal also progressed with a 3-0 win against Toronto. The Impact will face Columbus in the Eastern Conference semis.
Empoli ties Sampdoria
Sampdoria was held to a 1-1 draw by Empoli in Serie A Thursday but maintained its unbeaten home record.
Sampdoria knew that a victory in the last match of the midweek round of fixtures would lift it to seventh in the table, but Empoli had won two of its past three matches and was looking to move further away from the relegation zone.
Empoli broke the deadlock on the hour mark when Manuel Pucciarelli received the ball in the area from Riccardo Saponara, turned inside and curled an impressive finish into the top left corner.
However, Empoli's lead lasted seven minutes before Eder got the equalizer. Fernando stole the ball off substitute Assane Diousse and raced forward before slipping it through to Eder, who drove the ball into the bottom left corner.
Empoli moved level with Palermo, Genoa and Udinese, with all four clubs five points off the relegation zone. — Agencies
