Michael Hutchinson has no problem rising to the challenge of playing the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks. The Winnipeg Jets back-up goalie made a career-high 45 saves Thursday night in a 3-1 victory. The Jets put an end to Chicago's four-game winning streak and Hutchinson improved his record against the Blackhawks to 4-0-1. "It's just one of those teams that sometimes you have it where things just go your way," Hutchinson said. The Jets (6-3-1) held a 2-1 edge heading into the third period on goals by Blake Wheeler and Andrew Ladd, both set up by center Bryan Little. Mark Scheifele added to the lead at 8:04 when he took a pass from rookie Nikolaj Ehlers and beat goalie Corey Crawford on the short side. Penguins 4, Sabres 3 Evgeni Malkin scored a goal and set up another in the second period, Sidney Crosby assisted on two early goals and the Pittsburgh Penguins welcomed back former coach Dan Bylsma by beating the Buffalo Sabres 4-3. The Penguins' four goals were a season high — they had only 16 in the first nine games — as they won their third in a row and sixth in seven games despite being outshot 53-29. Hurricanes 3, Islanders 2 (OT) Ron Hainsey scored with 2:39 left in overtime as the Carolina Hurricanes came back to beat the New York Islanders 3-2 at Barclays Center. Justin Staal started the game-winning rush when he picked off the puck from Islanders right-winger Kyle Okposo, raced up the left and hit Hainsey in stride. Hainsey then fired the puck over the shoulder of goalie Thomas Greiss. Devils 4, Flyers 1 The New Jersey Devils blitzed the Philadelphia Flyers in the third period and continued their road prowess with a 4-1 win at Wells Fargo Center. New Jersey snapped a 1-1 tie with a pair of goals in the first three minutes of the final stanza from Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac. Avalanche 2, Lightning 1 The Colorado Avalanche ended a four-game winless streak, getting a goal and an assist from Alex Tanguay and Nathan MacKinnon on the way to a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena. Colorado (3-5-1) got a strong night from goaltender Semyon Varlamov, who made 34 saves and allowed only a power-play goal in the second period. Blues 2, Ducks 1 Rookie defenseman Colton Parayko's goal broke a 1-1 tie midway through the third period to give the St. Louis Blues a 2-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks. Stars 4, Canucks 3 (OT) Jamie Benn scored the game-winner 2:28 into overtime, capping an impressive Dallas Stars' comeback, in a 4-3 victory over the Vancouver Canucks at American Airlines Center. Oilers 4, Canadiens 3 The Montreal Canadiens scored three times in the first. And then the Edmonton Oilers and Leon Draisaitl went to work. — Agencies
