Roma returns to top
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 30 - 10 - 2015

Roma returned to the top of Serie A with a 3-1 win over Udinese Wednesday, but there was more misery for Juventus as the four-time defending champion lost 1-0 at Sassuolo with defender Giorgio Chiellini sent off.
Miralem Pjanic and Douglas Maicon gave Roma a comfortable advantage inside nine minutes. Gervinho secured the result in the second half before Cyril Thereau netted a consolation for Udinese.
Roma is two points above Inter Milan, as well as Napoli and Fiorentina, which also won in the midweek round. Napoli beat Palermo 2-0, while Fiorentina triumphed by the same scoreline at Hellas Verona.
Lazio was three points back — with Sassuolo — after losing 2-1 at Atalanta as home coach Edy Reja secured his 100th top-flight victory. AC Milan beat Chievo Verona 1-0 for a second successive win.
Elsewhere, Frosinone beat fellow Serie A newcomers Carpi 2-1 with both sides having a player sent off, and Genoa snatched a 3-3 draw at Torino.
Juventus found itself behind in the 20th minute when Nicola Sansone curled an unstoppable free kick into the top left corner, leaving Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon rooted to the spot. There was worse to come for Juventus when Chiellini, who had been booked in the fourth minute for dissent, was shown a second yellow card and sent off five minutes before halftime.
Big win for Dortmund
Borussia Moenchengladbach beat Schalke for the second time in four days, winning 2-0 in the second round of the German Cup Wednesday, while last season's runner-up Borussia Dortmund routed second-division Paderborn 7-1.
Dortmund fell behind when Srdjan Lakic exploited a mistake by goalkeeper Roman Buerki to put the visiting team ahead, but Dortmund quickly bounced back to win big. Gonzalo Castro scored two goals and Adrian Ramos, Shinji Kagawa, Ilkay Gundogan, Lukasz Piszczek and Henrikh Mkhitaryan added the others.
Bayer Leverkusen won 6-0 at fourth-tier Viktoria Cologne, with two goals from Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez.
Werder Bremen, Stuttgart and Augsburg also advanced.
Anthony Ujah scored the winning goal for Werder Bremen against his former club Cologne.
Stuttgart won 2-0 at fourth-tier Carl Zeiss Jena on goals from Martin Harnik and Alexandru Maxim.
Augsburg, struggling in the Bundesliga, won 3-0 at second-division leader Freiburg. Ji Dong-won, Alexander Esswein and Caiuby scored for the visitors.
On Tuesday, Bayern Munich eliminated holder Wolfsburg 3-1. — Agencies
