David Ferrer moved up to joint seventh in the race for a place at the year-ending World Tour Finals with a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 win over Steve Johnson in the Austrian Open final Sunday. The 33-year-old Spaniard added a 26th title to his career collection and joined Roger Federer on five titles this season. Only world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, with nine, has more trophies to his name in 2015. Ferrer, the 2014 Vienna finalist against Andy Murray, joined Kei Nishikori in provisional seventh spot in the race for one of two places remaining in the eight-man field for the London season finale from Nov. 15-22. However, Nishikori's chances of qualifying are looking slim after he withdrew from next week's Basel event due to injury. In the semifinals, Ferrer beat Gael Monfils of France 7-6 (5), 7-5 and Johnson defeated beat Ernests Gulbis of Latvia 6-3, 7-6 (4). Cilic retains Kremlin Cup Marin Cilic retained his title at the Kremlin Cup, beating Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4, 6-4 Sunday in a repeat of last year's final. Even the score was the same. The big-hitting Croatian came under pressure in the early stages but soon took control, breaking Bautista Agut's serve at 3-3 before closing out the first set. Cilic went a break up at 2-2 in the second before saving two break points in the next game to hold his advantage. "This tournament is becoming more and more special for me," Cilic said. "Coming back for a second year in a row and to win it again, it gives me huge, huge satisfaction and huge pleasure." Berdych wins Stockholm Czech top seed Tomas Berdych defended his Stockholm title on Sunday with a 7-6 (7/1), 6-2 victory over surprise finalist Jack Sock of the United States. It was world No. 5 Berdych's 12th career title and second this year after winning in Shenzhen at the start of October. "I've definitely built up a good history here, which always helps," said Berdych, who also won the Swedish tournament in 2012. Doi bags Luxembourg title Japan's world No. 92 Misaki Doi claimed her first career title Sunday with a 6-4, 6-7 (7/9), 6-0 win over Germany's Mona Barthel in the final of the Luxembourg Open. Left-hander Doi, 24, finished the fresher of the two women having played just one set in her semifinal Saturday when Belgian opponent Alison Van Uytvanck retired with an injury. World No. 55 Barthel had been aiming for a fourth title after claiming Bastad in 2014, Paris in 2013 and Hobart in 2012.
