Palat scores in overtime, Lightning strikes Jets

Ondrej Palat scored 36 seconds into overtime and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Winnipeg Jets 4-3 in National Hockey League Friday.
Palat scored off a 3-on-1 rush, converting a tap in after a tic-tac-toe play with Steven Stamkos and Victor Hedman.
Braydon Coburn, Cedric Paquette and Vladislav Namestnikov also scored for the Lightning (5-2-1).
Nikolaj Ehlers, Drew Stafford and Blake Wheeler had goals for the Jets (4-3-0).
Ben Bishop has started every game for the Lightning this season and stopped 33 shots. Ondrej Pavelec picked up his third loss in five starts.
Wheeler scored 1:17 into the third period to make it 3-3 with a shorthanded goal. He raced behind the net, stole the puck from Bishop and scored on a wraparound.
Canadiens 7, Sabres 2: Brendan Gallagher and Dale Weise scored twice to lead Montreal to a 7-2 win over Buffalo that extended the Canadiens unbeaten start to eight games.
Torrey Mitchell, Max Pacioretty and defenseman Andrei Markov also scored for the Canadiens, while goaltender Mike Condon made 33 saves.
Matt Moulson and Ryan O'Reilly scored for the Sabres (2-5).
Bruins 5, Islanders 3: David Pasternak scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period and Ryan Spooner was credited with an insurance goal shortly before the midway point of the third as the Boston Bruins remained unbeaten on the road with a 5-3 win over the New York Islanders at the Barclays Center.
Brett Connolly scored in the first period and Joonas Kemppainen collected the tying goal in the second for the Bruins (3-3-1), who have won three of four overall. Boston are 3-0-0 on the road.
Capitals 7, Oilers 4: The Washington Capitals extended their winning streak to five games with a 7-4 win over the Edmonton Oilers.
The Capitals scored three straight goals in the second period at Rexall Place to pull in front for good in a victory that improved their record to 6-1.
Evgeny Kuznetsov led the way for Washington with three goals and two assists.
The Oilers, hoping to even their own record at 4-4, saw their three-game win streak come to an end and fell to 3-5.
Flames 3, Red Wings 2 (OT): Mark Giordano's second goal of the game with 1:48 remaining in overtime gave Calgary a 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings, snapping the Flames (2-5-0) four-game losing streak. The Red Wings (3-4-0) have now dropped four straight.
During the three-on-three overtime session, Giordano took a pass from Johnny Gaudreau in the Detroit zone and deked Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard, who made 37 saves in the game.
Kings 3, Hurricanes 0: Tyler Toffoli scored a pair of goals, sparking the Los Angeles Kings to a 3-0 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes at Staples Center.
Toffoli extended his streak of goals to a career high four games as the Kings (4-3-0) defeated the Hurricanes for the fifth straight time at Staples.
Anze Kopitar also scored for the Kings, who captured their fourth consecutive win. Milan Lucic had two assists for Los Angeles and goaltender Johnathan Quick stopped all 40 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season. — Agencies
