UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen completed a team-record 34 passes as the Bruins got their season back on track with a 40-24 win against state rival California Thursday. Rosen, who threw two of his three touchdown passes to Devin Fuller, passed for 399 yards in another splendid game. Thomas Duarte had career highs of 10 catches for 141 yards while Soso Jamabo replaced star tailback Paul Perkins and rushed for a touchdown for the Bruins, who rebounded from consecutive losses and a drop from the national rankings. Soso Jamabo rushed for a score after star tailback Paul Perkins left with an injury, and the Bruins' injury-plagued defense limited Jared Goff and Cal's potent offense to 170 yards in the first half. California quarterback Jared Goff passed for 295 yards in a second straight disappointing game for the Bears, who began the season with five straight wins but have since lost two in a row. The Bears had their highest ranking in six years at 20, and a chance to clinch to clinch bowl eligibility for the first time since 2011, but lost again at the Rose Bowl, where they have just one win since 1999. In Thursday's other game involving a ranking team, Tempe beat East Carolina 24-14, with P.J. Walker throwing a late 23-yard touchdown pass to Robby Anderson. Walker finished 19 of 35 for 250 yards for the Owls, who improved to 7-0. Ranked 22nd, they are in the top 25 for the first time since 1979. Temple's Jahad Thomas rushed for two touchdowns, of 2 and 14 yards, the last sealing it with 2:18 to play. — AP
