MADINAH — A number of schools in Madinah is suffering from low maintenance and repeated occasions of water shortage and air conditioning failures. Parents of female students are upset at this negligence that is making the learning experience for their children so uncomfortable. Parents of students of the 82nd Elementary and 55th Secondary expressed their frustration and dismay at the situation. Ali Al-Hadidi said since the beginning of the school year no maintenance took place in his daughter's school. The lack of electricity prevented teachers from resuming normal classes fearing for the health of their students. In stuffy classrooms, the students are fail to complete their schoolwork and the teachers are unable to take classes, he said. Zuhair Yunus, a finance manager, said these schools are not the only ones that suffer from issues. Many schools are in similar condition and in need of urgent maintenance. The schools asked teachers to collect money from private donors to fix the problem but the education administration opposed the initiative. The administration sent out an official message to all schools not to collect money from the public and to follow the procedures to receive financial aid for all maintenance works that cost less than SR25 million.
