The Committee of Educational Affairs and Scientific Research at the Shoura Council has passed a motion to finance the opening of more kindergartens throughout the country. The decision comes after a Royal Decree called on the Ministry of Education to provide 7,000 more jobs for female teachers at kindergartens. The committee also discussed the negative effect of continuous assessment of advanced elementary students having on academic achievement. This is believed to be due to the fact that students become negligent about homework while preparing for semester tests. A Ministry of Education representative said: “A committee of experts on continuous assessment was formed from members who belong to the Ministry of Education and other ministries as well.” The goal of the committee is to restudy the regulations of continuous assessment and the positive as well as negative features of such assessment. “The Ministry of Education has tasked an expert office to study the issue and will act according to its findings,” the representative added. __
