Social media waited to watch the fashion news take over their timelines as fashionistas created a hullabaloo in Paris over anything and everything French. Chanel's finale from its Spring/Summer 2016 Ready-to-Wear show set off trending hashtags across social media. Karl Lagerfeld built an airplane terminal serving "Chanel Airlines" for the presentation in the Grand Palais and made sure A-list celebrities either walked the ramp or were fighting for that front row seat. The Louis Vuitton show staged Nicolas Ghesquière's latest collection in the shadow of its parent company's gargantuan new art museum, the Louis Vuitton Foundation, on the last day of the season. Demna Gvasalia was also announced as the new designer for Balenciaga. The 34-year-old Georgian, is the third creative director of Balenciaga in the last four years. The appointment created a buzz on social media and not just the fashion industry. "I got a breaking news alert in the night about the appointment, and it immediately woke me up — and I think more broadly that's what the appointment of Demna may do to the sector. Balenciaga has always chosen creative directors who like to shock and are cutting edge. But what is particularly exciting about this is the power of social media platforms like Instagram. Demna cast models for his show from Instagram, and his work is rooted in street style, which has exploded as a force in fashion from the platform. There is a new kind of democracy emerging in the fashion world, when a designer like him can take the top job of one of the most prestigious brands in the sector, " said Eva Chen, head of fashion partnerships, Instagram. Balmain remained true to its savvy, bold style but more importantly to its strong social media following. It showcased strong shoulders, deep colors, big belts and jewelry. About his runway show, Rousteing wrote: "This 15 minute presentation is designed to create strong impressions and reactions." Balmain has 193,000 followers on Twitter, 2.3 million on Instagram. Rousteing must be credited for most of it. His youth, love for hiphop, celebrity friends including West, Rihanna and Kardashians has helped the brand appeal to a wider audience. Either way, we love Rousteing. Juan Carlos Obando is a name to watch out for. He dressed models in dramatic sandals that were constructed for ballerina dancers but outrageously beautiful. Saint Luarent was a nostalgic throwback to the grungy British glamour. With metallic shimmering gowns worn with Wellington boots, furs, tiaras and biker jackets, the scene was quite chic and fitting for the fashion hungry audience and the small army of Slimane's young friends piled on the floor. Inspired by Africa, it was surprising to see Valentino's show had mostly white models walking down the runway, sporting cornrows-which also sparked a conflicting conversation on Twitter. Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski opened her second collection for Hermès keeping it simple, slightly too safe with sober colors, navy blues, variations in black and white and finally a supreme orange colored dress with matching sneakers at the end. Janet Jackson and husband Wissam Al Mana attended the show. Celine remained true to simplistic elehance with easy soft dresses paired with work boots or sharp-edged flats. Rick Owens had models carry humans instead of accessories. Of course the message seemed to have been support and empowerment, but the show did seem to have its moment with women walking by carrying other women practically the same size.
