AT a time when people are seeking stability and calling for reform and the focus is on the importance of building and developing the nation based on its social, cultural and religious identity, we learn that some people who are citizens of this country are making malicious statements with the clear intention of causing disunity and differences within our society. This is exactly what happened when certain persons recently posted statements on websites about the riots that took place in Al-Qatif and the trial of those who were arrested for having been responsible for the disruption. It is clear that these statements make use of confused language and a distortion of facts with the intention of hiding the truth. This is a blatant attempt to draw attention to the chaos and turbulence that currently exist in some Arab countries and to involve the Kingdom in a similar situation. The ill-intentioned statements were not in keeping with the firm values of the Kingdom, its religious, social and cultural identity and the importance that its leadership and citizens place on national unity. Real development and political reform do not call for chaos and disunity. The Kingdom's Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah Aal Al-Sheikh has pointed out that uttering public criticism in this manner is defamation and character assassination which violate the principle of privacy. He said that such websites are being used to make provocative and malicious statements. He said such practices serve no one but the enemies of the Ummah, and urged those who want to approach the ruler and officials to follow the proper channels. It has become increasingly clear that some people, who get orders from abroad, are trying to disrupt the security situation in certain parts of the Kingdom. This is exactly what happened recently in Al-Qatif. People who use websites to incite chaos are conspiring against our country and society. They have evil intentions and no true sense of national belonging. __
