Muhammad Al-Eneizi Okaz/Saudi Gazette DAMMAM – Following the disturbing events in Al-Awamiyah, a number of sheikhs and scholars in the city advised the youth to do everything they can to maintain public peace. A scholar who requested anonymity said that sheikhs are advising young men to avoid carrying out acts which might lead to disastrous results. These disgraceful activities are entirely rejected by the people of Qatif, the scholar said. “All the good people of the governorate are working day and night to stop these heinous acts which will bring harm to all of us.” Abdul Haleem Aal Kidar, chief of Jazirat Taroot district, expressed regret over the recent attack on a police station in Al-Awamiyah when a group of men hurled a Molotov cocktail at the station. “Such acts are completely rejected by the people of Qatif. This is not like us and it doesn't befit the character of good citizen,” said Aal Kidar. “Security officers are our brothers; they are here to maintain security and protect us. Attacking them is wrong and a red line that should not be crossed. The Saudi government has always given and still gives a lot to the people of Qatif just like our fellow citizens elsewhere in the Kingdom. The doors of our leaders are open to everyone. Those who want to talk to them can do so anytime they want,” the scholar said. Aal Kidar called upon sheikhs and scholars in the governorate to carry out their religious duties toward the nation and called for halting all forms of instigations, which he said were encouraged “by few people in Qatif.” “Instigators should be fought or else they will drag the society into a dangerous situation. The people of Qatif have and will always be loyal to the nation and leadership. Foreign instigators outside the country wish evil things for this country and its people,” he said. The people of Qatif, on their part, denounced and rejected all irresponsible acts carried out by a few. The majority of forums and websites dealing with Qatif news condemned the assault against Al-Awamiyah police station and police officers in Saihat. Participants called for halting such disgraceful acts against the nation. Participants also said national security is a red line and called upon all citizens to rise and stand up against any attempts seeking to instigate disturbances and cause sedition. One of the participants called upon sheikhs and scholars to talk to the youth in the streets and warn them against playing with fire and bringing harm to others. He also wrote that causing disturbances was not the correct way to ask for greater rights or complain about something.
