After one of the shortest outings of his career, netminder Martin Brodeur had to put in a little overtime as the New Jersey Devils snapped a four game losing skid with a 3-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs Tuesday. David Clarkson notched his second of the game 2:40 into overtime and Ilya Kovalchuk chipped in with a goal as the Devils held on for the win after squandering a 2-0 first period lead. Brodeur was back in net after giving up three goals on four shots in a little more than eight minutes in a loss to Minnesota Friday but the future Hall of Famer was back in good form handling 31 shots. The NHL's all-time leader in wins (631) and shutouts (116), Brodeur's start against the Wild was the second shortest of a 20-year career that features a 1,146 games and the Devils 39-year-old netminder did not mind putting in a little extra against the Leafs. Vancouver 6, Colorado 0: Just when Roberto Luongo was looking like his old self, the Vancouver goaltender exited early with another injury, but Daniel Sedin's hat trick picked up the Canucks as they blasted the Colorado Avalanche Tuesday. Luongo, who had made just two appearances since returning from an upper-body injury suffered Nov. 13, took a slap shot underneath his chin and left in the second period having made 13 saves. The Canucks (16-10-1) were 1-0 when their goaltender went down, but extended the lead with a goal in the second period before routing Colorado in the third with four more to capture their seventh win in eight games. Islanders 5, Lightning 1: Matt Martin scored his second game-winning goal in his three-year NHL career, and the Islanders shook off a slow start to rout visiting Tampa Bay. John Tavares, Milan Jurcina, David Ullstrom and Matt Moulson also scored for the Islanders. Ullstrom's goal was his first in the NHL. Al Montoya made 23 saves for the Islanders, who are 4-1-2 in their past seven games. Blue Jackets 3, Canadiens 2: Rick Nash's shootout goal lifted Columbus to a win in Montreal. Curtis Sanford was perfect in the tiebreaker, turning aside David Desharnais, Max Pacioretty and Brian Gionta. Gionta scored a goal with 1:21 left in regulation to send the game to overtime. Blues 3, Red Wings 2: David Backes got the go-ahead score on the second straight power-play goal of the game for St. Louis, which ended a 2-for-39 slump with the man advantage in a victory over visiting Detroit. Jets 2, Bruins 1: Ondrej Pavelec made 39 saves and Bryan Little scored to help host Winnipeg beat Boston, sending the Bruins to their first loss in regulation since Oct. 29. Coyotes 3, Predators 2: Keith Yandle scored with 1:45 remaining to give host Phoenix a victory over Nashville.
