The Ministry of Education has drafted a set of safety and security rules for the nation's schools. It requires all schools to explain safety equipment and the role of the Civil Defense. The ministry will require all its departments to check the safety standards at schools, such as ensuring that there are safe and covered electric wires, carbon dioxide extinguishers, and direction and instruction signs. School officials must ensure they switch off all electricity at the end of each school day, avoid any type of electric overloading, and keep wires away from sources of heat. School laboratories should be on the first floor and have smoke detectors, emergency exits and personal protection tools. The regulations stipulate that all schools should have spacious courtyards suitable for the number of students, and that walls should not have any cracks. Officials must also ensure that all top and bottom water reservoirs are safe, windows do not have bars and emergency staircases are able to take heavy loads. The regulations also stipulate that all schools close to repair shops and warehouses or schools located in narrow alleys should have direction signs. These schools should continually double-check fire safety, water hoses and electric equipment to ensure they meet the required standards. Emergency telephones should be installed and no candles should be allowed during extracurricular activities. __
