No. 7 Baylor defeats Northwestern 69-41
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 06 - 12 - 2011

Quincy Acy and Pierre Jackson both scored 16 points and No. 7 Baylor remained unbeaten with a 69-41 victory over Northwestern Sunday.
Four players scored in double figures for the Bears (7-0), who cruised after an early game run. Jackson scored 14 points in the first half, while Perry Jones III added 12 and Brady Haslip 11.
Acy had six blocks to lead a dominant performance in the paint on both ends of the court. Baylor outscored Northwestern 46-12 in the lane and hit 25 of 30 shots from inside the 3-point line.
Drew Crawford had 15 points to lead Northwestern (7-1).
Baylor was the highest-ranked non-conference opponent the Wildcats have played at Welsh-Ryan Arena since Dec. 2, 1989, a 103-77 loss to No. 7 Duke. Both teams came in undefeated for the first-ever meeting between the schools but once the game tipped off, that seemed to be about the only thing they had in common. Baylor led by 17 points at halftime and by as many as 32 points in the game. Baylor has started 7-0 for the second straight year, something never before accomplished in school history.
Wichita State 89, No. 18 UNLV 70: Joe Ragland had eight 3-pointers, one off the school record, and finished with 31 points for Wichita State.
Ragland entered the game with five 3-pointers this season.
Carl Hall added 17 points for the Shockers (5-2).
Chace Stanback had 16 points for UNLV (8-1), which handed then-No. 1 North Carolina its first loss of the season on Nov. 26. Mike Moser added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Runnin' Rebels.
UNLV went without a field for nearly 8 minutes late in the first half. With the score 18-all, a 3 by Ragland started a 9-0 run. Ragland had three more 3-pointers after that, making him 5 of 5 from the arc in the half as Wichita State took a 47-32 lead.
San Diego State 64, No. 24 California 63: Chase Tapley scored 25 points, including two free throws with 8.6 seconds left, and San Diego State beat California for the second straight season.
Tapley came up huge with his offense and defense down the stretch for the Aztecs (8-2), whose last six wins have been by four points or fewer. Tapley had a rebound with 20 seconds left and fed Jamaal Franklin, who was fouled and made both shots for a 62-58 lead. Cal's Jorge Gutierrez made a layup with 9.2 seconds left before Tapley was fouled and hit both free throws to give the Aztecs a four-point lead. Allen Crabbe of the Bears (6-2) made a 3-pointer with 2.1 seconds for the final margin.
