Engineer Faisal Alfadl, Secretary General of the Second Saudi Green Buildings Forum, stresses need to promoting research in the techniques of environmentally compatible green buildings. JEDDAH – The Second Saudi Green Buildings Forum encouraged research in techniques of environmentally compatible green buildings. Participants in the Saudi Green Buildings Forum recognized the need to be cautious and deter attempts to exploit the term “green” to pass green fraudulence in marketing products that do not belong to engineering standards. The Forum urged also the Ministry of Education to incorporate the approach of environmental education, through primary stage curriculum to inculcate a culture of environment friendship, and work to raise awareness of the importance of this architectural approach. The Forum stressed the importance of consultating owners on building standards in all existing and future projects, and urged at the same time the review of all existing buildings, both public and private – in terms of engineering study – to respond to the system of world green building, that will save energy and water and electricity consumption, as well as to activate the application of environmentally-friendly materials, which in turn translate into facilities that meet user needs without harming the environment. The three-day Green Building Forum held in Riyadh also urged the use of different media – printed, radio and broadcast – to carry out its mission to educate the community about the positive aspects of green buildings culture tht would benefit both the community and environment alike. It also stressed the establishment of a center for care and follow-up regarding the environmental footprint and emerging carbon coming from the facilities and urban centers. The center is aimed at supervising the implementation of the Forum recommendations, and to provide appropriate statistics to the concerned authorities for appropriate measures and applications. Mario Sinevertn, Managing Director of Green Technology in the Saudi Green Buildings Forum, said that the green building movement has become influential in a growing number of countries. There are more than 80 countries which signed move on the green buildings. This includes Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Qatar.
