Tevez at home instead of returning to City
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 16 - 11 - 2011

Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez failed to turn up for training again Monday with his advisors telling the BBC that he was still in Argentina.
The 27-year-old flew to Argentina without the permission of the club last week further straining already tense relations after the furore following claims he refused to go on as a substitute during a Champions League match with Bayern Munich.
City instructed its lawyers to take action following last week's absence and Tevez was meant to turn up for a meeting with the club Monday.
Discussions had taken place between high-ranking City officials and Tevez, and his advisors, over the weekend.
City last month fined Tevez four weeks' wages — later reduced to two — for five breaches of contract relating to his behaviour during the club's 2-0 defeat at Bayern Munich on Sept. 27.
Tevez had been accused of refusing to appear as a substitute but the player denied those claims, insisting he had only declined a request to warm-up on the grounds that he had already done so.
City manager Roberto Mancini vowed Tevez was “finished” at the club, but recent reports in England and Italy have suggested the Argentinian may continue to play at Eastlands if he apologizes to his teammates.
Beckham wins MLS honor
David Beckham has been voted Major League Soccer's comeback player of the year after missing most of the 2010 season because of a torn Achilles tendon.
The former England captain won the award Monday after receiving 59.76 percent of votes from the media, players and club officials, having set up 15 goals for the Los Angeles Galaxy, which finished the season with the best regular-season record.
In addition to winning Comeback Player of the Year, Beckham was named recently to the MLS Best-XI this season, joining four other midfielders on the all-star team.
Beckham will play in his first MLS Cup final Sunday when the Galaxy faces Houston at the Home Depot Center.
Beckham's hopes of forcing his way into England's squad for the Euro 2012 Finals in Poland and Ukraine, meanwhile, have been all but quashed by manager Fabio Capello.
When asked here Monday if Beckham had any chance of making England's Euro 2012 squad Capello said: “No. I think he will only be involved in the Olympic Games. But I have time to decide.”
