Ahsa celebrated Eid in a new and creative way. The mayoralty of Al-Ahsa in the Eastern Province organized a Sand Art Carnival for its people on the last day of Eid at Al-Aqeer beach. More than 7,000 visitors flocked to the beach to celebrate Eid and to admire the different drawings and sculptures created using only sand and water. Sand artists reserved their places on the sandy beach from early afternoon and kept working until sunset. Visitors were awed by how quickly and smoothly the artists had created beautiful sculptures. The carnival gave the gifted sand artists plenty of exposure to show off their talent to the world. Haidar, 28, gave visitors quite a surprise and a bit of a scare as he had made a crocodile biting an injured man lying on the beach. “I love the sea and I always come to the beach. This is where I picked up the hobby of sand art and I learned through lots and lots of practice. My sand sculpture was a simple Eid gift to the visitors and residents of Al-Ahsa. My dream is to participate in more events like this one and to enter international competitions in drawing and sculpting with sand,” said Haidar. The beach was packed with many more fun activities in addition to the display of sand art. Families and children played soccer and volley ball and competed at various events like fishing, swimming, diving, racing on the shore, surfing, riding waves, and searching for precious pearls. __
