The Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME) and the Directorate of Civil Defense announced Monday that they have activated an early alarm system which links both authorities and enables them to respond quickly to disasters. Dr. Sa'ad Mahlafi, Assistant Director of Meteorology Affairs and the Meteorology and Environment National Center, said the new system now allows the Civil Defense to receive PME warning messages. “The new system is fast and easy to use. It divides messages into four different colors. The highest alarm level is red (warning), then orange (advanced warning), followed by yellow (alert) and green (notice).” The system will help determine the exact time and location of an incident and the type of alarm for various conditions including heavy thunderous rain, strong dusty winds, heavy fog, cold waves, heat waves and intermediate rains.
