Al-Khobar Governorate Police has discovered another bogus Haj campaign this week. Two Arab expatriates in their forties were caught running the campaign from an office that provides cargo and shipping services. An investigation team gathered all required information before arresting the two expatriates. “They were caught running and marketing an unlicensed Haj campaign. With them we found SR24,000 taken from people by fraud. Right now we are working on returning the amounts to their rightful owners,” said Lt. Col. Ziyad Al-Ruqaiti, spokesman for Eastern Province Police, according to a report in Al-Watan newspaper. Both expatriates were handed over to the police to undergo more investigation, he added. Last week Prince Khaled, who is Chairman of the Central Haj Committee in Makkah, launched a media campaign to educate pilgrims on Haj regulations. It advises citizens seeking Haj permit to contact the civil status department while expatriates should contact the Passport Department. The campaign also warns intending Haj pilgrims not to be duped by fake Haj agents.
