For the first time this year, sensors will be used to measure the level of gases and air quality in tunnels and large gatherings during Haj, according to General Muhammad Bin Abdullah Al-Qarni, Civil Defense Haj Forces Commander. The sensors' readings will be transferred to commanders who will take the necessary measures if high levels of gases are a threat to the health of pilgrims. He said the giant development projects in Makkah and the holy sites have forced the Civil Defense to amend several emergency plans. The Grand Mosque's expansion and the holy sites' train projects have meant additional forces had to be deployed along the train line in Mina, Muzdalifa and Arafat and at stations.
