The Ministry of Education has made it clear that the recent appointments of female teachers will be cancelled if it is discovered that they do not have a male guardian or mahram living in the area where they work. The ministry insisted that this decision was legal and that female teachers and their male guardians have signed an undertaking to that effect agreeing that guardians would live in the area where the women teach. It said any violation of this contract would have a disruptive effect on the educational process. If a female teacher does not live in the area where she teaches or if she does not show up for work within 15 days of her appointment, her contract will be terminated, the ministry said. Female teachers visited the place of their work and the area where they were going to teach and they accepted the job based on that. They also certified that they would not ask the ministry to transfer them to another place until after a one-year trial period, the ministry said. __
