Faisal, Vice Chairperson and General Supervisor of Effat University, has been awarded an Honorary PhD in Engineering by the University of Tokai in Japan. She received it during her visit to Japan along with a delegation from Effat University to sign different agreements with universities there. “The doctorate was awarded in appreciation of the Princess' life-long achievements in promoting women's education in general, and the pioneering introduction of engineering as a field of study for women in Saudi Arabia,” said Chancellor Takano of Tokai University. Princess Loulwa thanked the university and delivered condolences of the Saudi nation to the Japanese people for the recent tragedy inflicted by a deadly tsunami. “The world admired the resilience and fortitude of the Japanese people in the wake of the disaster,” she said. Effat University also signed a Cooperative Agreement with Tokai University in the field of Computer Science. “Close ties already exist between our two institutions. Effat has hosted two visiting professors from Tokai, and one of our students spent the summer in Japan as part of an internship project,” said Dr. Haifa Jamalallail, President of Effat University. Another Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed with Tsukuba University, a leading Japanese University which has produced three Nobel prize-winners so far. The delegation also attended an event to honor outstanding female Saudi students in Japanese universities. It was organized by the Saudi Embassy in Tokyo. Nearly 200 Saudis are currently studying in Japan. __
