Municipality inspectors have confiscated 7,500 cans of expired baby milk from a small house in Al-Thalibah District here, Sunday. The municipality inspectors raided the place after getting a call from a citizen who noticed suspicious activity in the house. The caller reported seeing hundreds of boxes of baby powder being carried into the house. The team kept the house under surveillance until three African nationals approached the house carrying boxes. The team conducted a raid, but the three Africans had already fled. A search of the house turned up cans of baby milk imported from Belgium and France. The team found equipment used to change the expiry date to 2012. It is believed the men intended to distribute the milk in Riyadh and Jeddah with the help of a supplier. Hassan Ghunaim, Director of Al-Jami'ah Municipality, said: “We'll enlist all authorities to find those responsible for attempting to falsify the expiry date of such a large amount of baby milk and we will hold them accountable. We have sent a report to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry with information about the house and its owner, who will be called in to help with the investigation.” A source in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said the ministry will call the owner for investigation and then will refer the case to the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution. “Such cases are punishable by SR500,000, imprisonment and publishing the name of the violator in newspapers,” the source said. __
