Bobby Ryan scored the only goal in the shootout, lifting the Anaheim Ducks to a 2-1 victory over the Rangers Saturday at Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm. The Rangers appeared headed for a loss in regulation, but Brad Richards scored with 2 minutes 15 seconds left in the third period, his first goal since joining the team as a free agent. Richards's goal came after the Ducks had trouble clearing the puck. Ryan McDonagh took control and passed to Richards. He skated up to Ducks goaltender Jonas Hiller and put the puck over his shoulder, tying the score at 1-1. Goalie Henrik Lundqvist, a star in Sweden, kept the Rangers close and rewarded the capacity crowd with an outstanding game. He stopped 27 shots. Both teams will head back to the United States with 2 points in two games. The Ducks lost, 4-1, to the Buffalo Sabres in Helsinki, Finland, Friday, and the Rangers dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the Los Angeles Kings in Stockholm. Andrew Cogliano scored for the Ducks midway through the first period. There were 19 penalties. “It wasn't a smooth game at all,” Rangers Coach John Tortorella said. “But we stayed with it. At times, as ugly as we were, we still found a way to battle and get a big goal at the end.” Panthers 2, Islanders 0: In the opener for both teams, Jose Theodore made 27 saves to pick up the shutout for visiting Florida. Stephen Weiss and Jason Garrison scored and Brian Campbell added two assists as the Panthers won in Kevin Dineen's first game as an NHL head coach.
