Tony Romo persevered through pain in his ribs to lead enough deep drives to set up Dan Bailey for six field goals, including one from 40 yards with 1:57 left to give the Cowboys an 18-16 victory over the Washington Redskins Monday. Dallas' Anthony Spencer chopped the ball from Washington's Rex Grossman with 28 seconds left, and linebacker Sean Lee recovered it, setting off a celebration inside Cowboys Stadium. Dallas coach Jason Garrett dropped to a knee and pumped his fist wildly at being 2-1 — guaranteeing no repeat of last year's miserable 1-7 start. The Cowboys are even tied for first place in the NFC East, along with Washington (2-1), which was seeking its first 3-0 start since 2005. “This was a great win for us,” said Romo, who was 22 of 36 for 255 yards. “It was a hard, hard game. ... We had a million mistakes tonight. We have a lot of young guys, but they were out there for a reason. We'll get it right.” ‘Vick's hand only bruised' In Pennsylvania, Michael Vick has suffered only a bruised right hand and not a broken one, Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid said Monday. Vick, a left-handed quarterback, suffered his latest injury Sunday in a 29-16 loss to the New York Giants and his status for next week's game against San Francisco is uncertain. Vick's injury was originally thought to be a broken hand after images from a X-ray machine at the stadium showed Vick appearing to have a fracture. But when doctors examined Vick with a CT scan Monday, they found his hand was not broken. The angle of the X-ray camera at the stadium made a blood vessel positioned over the bone appear to be a fracture, Reid said. “The positive is it's not broken,” Vick said. “There's a bunch of swelling in there that has got to get out of there. It's sensitive to the touch. It's not that he can't play with the swelling. It's just got to get to the point where he can work with it.” Asked whether Vick's replacement would be Vince Young, nursing a sore hamstring, or Mike Kafka, who has replaced Vick after injuries in the past two games, a cagy Reid said: “Let's see how Michael's swelling goes.”
