Saudi Gazette As Somalia remains in the grip of a humanitarian crisis, it is vital to ensure adequate funding to assist the suffering Somalians. The famine has killed tens of thousands of people; half of them children. In the next few months, 750,000 Somalis are at risk of starvation. To extend a helping hand and relieve human suffering, the Saudi company Saffola, will be sending nutritional food items worth SR2 million to Somalia. The donation will include items such as sugar, salt, oil, rice, oats, and other basic nutritional necessities. “The rate of malnutrition among children in Bay region of Somalia is 58 percent. This is a record rate of acute malnutrition,” said Grainne Moloney, the chief technical advisor for the UN Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit. “Saudi Arabia has a grave responsibility and a sacred mission in helping the people of the world, especially those in Islamic countries,” said Dr. Abdul Ra'uf Manaa, a representative of Saffola, “King Abdullah has paved the way for starting a financial aid campaign to feed the hungry in Somalia. And now we are doing our job,” he added. Saffola group also supports local programs to serve the community. “At Saffola we believe in volunteer work and in improving the social environment that we are a part of. During Ramadan, the month of blessings, we gave away a large number of our high quality nutritional products to 50 different charitable organizations operating in the Kingdom,” said Dr. Manaa. __
