In a move to streamline the works on proposed development projects, a new clause will be added to the government contracts stipulating installation of an electronic clock on project sites. These clocks will indicate the deadline set for the completion of any given project, said Muhammad Bin Khaled Al-Sewakit, Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Transportation for Technical Affairs and Supervisor General of the General Administration for Roads and Transportation in the Eastern Province. The official was quoted by Al-Madina Arabic newspaper as saying that said the Road Administration in the Eastern Province has already made it mandatory for the contracting companies to install electronic clocks on the work site. The new measure is already in place in some projects. Installation of clocks, he said, comes within the efforts made by the ministry to introduce new measures aiming to develop its work and overcome any shortcoming in the rules defining its activities. The roads sector in the Eastern Province, the official said, is responsible for issuing land and sea licenses besides issuing vehicles operation cards including limousines and ships registration certificates. He said his administration is now engaged in carrying out 40 roads projects at a total cost of SR6.262 billion pointing out that new projects cover expansion of roads' tracks and construction of new roads linking the region's different parts. He said the the transportation and marine navigation section of the administration registers ships, boats, yachts and marine units besides issuing permits for fishing boats and excursion. It also oversees the performance of the travel agencies.
