The Ministry of Transport has approved SR150 million for the third phase of a new ring road that will stretch from Southern Corniche to eastern Jeddah and from that point north to Thahban. An official at Makkah Region's Roads Administration said the contract for the third phase of the 90-km road would be awarded soon. He said that the first and second phases of the project with work on an intersection connecting Al-Leeth Road to the ring road are under way. The official also said that contractors have completed about 60 percent of the 28-kilometer road that will link Makkah and King Abdul Aziz International Airport (KAIA) in Jeddah, which will aid in the transportation of pilgrims. He said that a new bridge for the KAIA Royal Terminal will also be constructed and that the site has been handed over to a contractor.
