Turn not your cheek away from people in scorn and pride, and walk not on earth haughtily; for God does not love anyone who acts proudly and boastfully. Be modest in your bearing and lower your voice; for the ugliest sound is the donkey's braying.' (Qur'an, 31: 18-19)“And if you (O' Muhammad) ask them: Who has created the heavens and the earth, they will certainly say: Allah.” (Qur'an, 31:25) Do you really believe in God?,” I was asked over and over again by my non-Muslims friends after I embraced Islam. For young people, born and raised in a non-Muslim country and with no understanding of religion, the question about the existence of God was more important than belief in God from a Christian or Muslim point of view. Just believing in God caused a lot of questions. The next question was normally: “Why? How can you believe in God, even though all the scientists hold a different opinion?” Where is the proof for the God you believe in? So, here is an explanation why I indeed believe in God as the Creator of the universe and all mankind and jinn. “Were they created by nothing? Or were they themselves the creators? Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they have no firm belief.” (Qur'an, 52:35-36) The Glorious Qur'an reminds us in this verse that we are existing, as well as the heavens and the earth- a fact we cannot deny. The question is where is all this coming from and what the deeper meaning of this creation is. Every star, planet or moon is following a certain path without alteration. The sun has its place as have all the other stars. Our earth is following its path around the sun, with the effect of summer and winter as a result. The earth is rotating on its own axis, resulting into day and night. “Among His signs are the Night and the Day, and the sun and the moon.” (Qur'an, 41:37) Everything in the universe is following a specific law and every single part of the universe somehow seems to fit the remaining parts, creating a perfect system. The same is true on earth. Everything is following distinctive rules which cannot be changed. The apple always falls down, never goes up. Water always runs down, never runs up. Falling tide is followed by rising tide. Winter is followed by summer, and water turns into ice when frozen. Every human being is born as a baby and grows older. The other way around it is just not possible. Everything in this universe follows certain laws and everything has to obey these laws. Scientists admit this and they call it the law of nature or natural principle. Unfortunately scientists' fall short in explaining to us where these laws of nature are coming from or how all this developed. “Or ask them, O Prophet: Who is it that created the heavens and the earth? And who has sent down to you, from the sky, water, with which We cause to grow orchards of delight?” (Qur'an, 27:60) Some people say that everything has developed by accident, there was no bigger plan behind it, no bigger sense or reason for our lives. “They follow nothing but conjectures, and they do nothing but lie.” (Qur'an, 6:116) For me the idea that the universe and life came into existence by accident is like saying that you could get a dictionary as the result of an accidental explosion in a printing press. If you take 10 pieces of papers and you mark them with numbers from 1-10 and put them into your pockets, the possibility to take them out in the correct ascending order is one in 10 billion. So, on this base, how many accidents does it take to create the universe and earth in such a perfect order? “They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire” (Qur'an, 53:23) “…They follow but a guess, and verily a guess is no substitute for the truth.” (Qur'an, 53:28) A lot of scientists explain the creation by saying that it is nature that creates and generates. What do they mean by nature? Scientists may explain to us the way in which the universe operates and how the laws of nature affect things, but the most important question of all, the question of who created the universe, the laws that governs all this and most important who created me, remains unanswered. “Do they not look in the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that Allah has created?” (Qur'an, 7:185) There are some who say that nature is something like a “living being”. Do they mean its a seeing, hearing and powerful force, that can make decisions? Actually these people are right, but out of scientific arrogance or ignorance they refuse to call this force by its correct name. “Is there a creator, other than Allah, to give you sustenance from from the sky and the earth?” (Qur'an, 35:3) This creative force behind the scenes of creation is the true God, the one God, the only One who deserves to be worshipped. That's why I believe in God, whose name is Allah, the name He chose for himself! “And among His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the difference of your languages and your colors.” (30:22) __
