At least 11 people died over the past two days as torrential rains continued to wreck havoc in north-western Yemen, bringing the death toll from floods this week to 26, dpa cited the Interior Ministry as saying today. Four died in the north-west province of Hajja, one of the worst- hit areas, and three in the al-Zuhrah district of the Red Sea province of Houdieda, the ministry said in a statement. In neighbouring Raimah province, three villagers were killed after their car was swept off a mountainous road. A woman was killed in Sana'a after floods swept away her house Friday. Landslides and floods triggered by heavy rains also damaged roads in rural areas in the north-western provinces of Amran and al-Jawf. Authorities warned residents of mountainous districts to stay away from risky hillsides and flooded areas. At least 15 people were killed after torrential rainfall triggered flooding and landslides in different parts of north-west Yemen on Wednesday, police said. Yemen's Meteorological Authority expects heavy downpours to last for another week.
