A report issued by the Ministry of Social Affairs has shown that Saudis make up 18 percent of beggars arrested in 2010 (1431H). The remaining 82 percent are expatriates who came to perform Umrah or Haj, or illegally entered the Kingdom, according to the report. When Saudi beggars are arrested, their cases are studied and the Ministry of Social Affairs coordinates with other authorities to help the citizens, based on conclusions reached by the research, the report said. The Ministry of Social Affairs, represented by the Anti-begging offices and the Social Follow-up Administration, also carries out joint security campaigns throughout the year to address the problem, the report said. Anti-begging efforts are executed with cooperation from the ministries of Interior, Social Affairs, Labor, Culture and Information, and Islamic Affairs, and the General Presidency for the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, the report added. __
