The Control and Investigation Board (CIB) has dropped cases against four people accused of wrongdoing in the 2009 flood disaster because of a lack of evidence, said a CIB source. The accused include two prominent officials at the Jeddah Mayoralty, a businessman, a well-known sportsman and an expatriate working for a company with a procurement contract with the Jeddah Mayoralty. The source said the District Court in Jeddah is still studying cases of three accused officials including two senior officials who were working at the time of the floods and a third retired senior official. The accused are being tried for destroying public property and causing the deaths of 120 citizens and expatriates. They are also charged with bribery and abuse of office.
